Limit the amount ^KJl^r of sea vegetables consumed because they contain iodine, which may over stimulate the thyroid gland. Also avoid stimulants such as coffee, carbonated drinks, caffeinated tea, and nicotine, which make symptoms worse. Brewer's yeast has high amounts of vitamin B and other important nutrients. Make a drink from the yeast or sprinkle it on your food. Supplements: Those with an overactive thyroid need vitamin B complex to calm the nervous system. Take 50 mg three times a day. Vitamin C is also important to stabilize stressful conditions. Take 3,000-5,000 mg a day.

Food sources: Tofu, nuts, seeds, sea vegetables, and leafy green vegetables, especially kale. Supplements: Oral supplements of magnesium are absorbed well and will increase the measurable levels of this mineral inside red and white blood cells.44 The forms best absorbed are magnesium glycinate, magnesium fumerate, and magnesium citrate, which also have less of a laxative effect.45 Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate), an old-fashioned remedy, is an excellent addition to a bath, but it has a strong laxative effect if taken as an oral supplement. Typical therapeutic dose: 250 mg daily.

Eat four servings of calcium from green vegetables, almonds, and sea vegetables, as calcium is essential for bone health and the general health of the fetus. It is okay to eat chocolate or salty snacks, which are often craved during pregnancy, as long as they do not become a staple part of your diet. Drink water regularly throughout the day to stay hydrated and provide fluids for the amniotic sac and other tissues that are important for proper fetal development. Supplements: Take a prenatal vitamin, following the dosage instructions on the bottle along with the suggestions of your doctor.
Calcium and magnesium also produce a calming effect. sea vegetables, green leafy vegetables, nuts, and yogurt are good sources of these nutrients. Caffeine, refined sugars, and alcohol can make symptoms worse and should be avoided. Supplements: 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) increases serotonin levels, which have a calming effect on the body. Take 50-100 mg two to three times daily, but do not take 5-HTP if you are on anti-depressant medications. Taking 500 mg of calcium and 250 mg of magnesium will also help calm the nervous system.

They need things like sea vegetables, spirulina, chlorella (www.IntegratedHealth.com), goji berries and whole food concentrates like blueberry powder or multi-fruit superfood powders. They need things like raw chocolate (www.NavitasNaturals.com) or super foods like chia seeds (www.GoodCauseWellness.com) or ancient grains like quinoa. These are the kinds of things that people need to put into their bodies in order to reverse the underlying causes of all of these diseases.

If you feel too restricted eating exactly what I recommend, you can always take up the fall-back position: eat a wider variety of raw plant foods including fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, seeds, sprouts, sea vegetables, raw plant-food recipes, etc. Remember, the initial goal here is to eat as much raw plant food as we can adjust into our diet. Make your nutrition fun. Water I am often asked what I do for water. The best book I have found on the subject of water is Living Energies by Callum Coats.

There are powerful anticancer compounds found in superfoods like spirulina and chlorella, as well as various sea vegetables. There are powerful anticancer compounds in fresh sprouts, especially if you sprout broccoli or cabbage and eat those sprouts raw and fresh. That is some of the most potent anticancer medicine found on this planet. You can further reduce the risk of cancers to a cumulative 70 percent reduction by adding things like zinc, garlic, ginger, and herbs like gravida from the Amazon rainforest.

I don't put a piece of food in my mouth without first taking some chlorella, spirulina, "veggie" tablets, powdered broccoli sprouts in capsules, sea vegetables in capsules, and so on. And the supplements I take are always made with a wide variety of whole foods, not isolated compounds. I aim for variety. In the sections that follow, I introduce my favorite whole food supplements and share my recommended sources for acquiring them. Truly, these whole food complexes need to be part of every person's diet.

TREATMENT Diet Recommended Food Good sources of calcium include sea vegetables, green leafy vegetables (with the exception of spinach), soybeans, and unsweetened cultured yogurt. Enjoy citrus fruits and green vegetables for vitamin C Food to Avoid Spinach, rhubarb, tomatoes, and chocolate inhibit your body's ability to absorb calcium. Green vegetables, such as green lettuces, broccoli, and zucchini, and super green foods, such as spirulina, chlorella, and wheatgrass, as well as sea vegetables like dulse, nori, wakame, and hijiki, apparently can neutralize acidic tissues due to their alka-linizing effect. Eat multiple servings of these alkalinizing foods each day. Phytonutrients A major area of interest in nutritional science concerns the therapeutic benefits of phytonutrients, also known as phytochemicals. These naturally occurring substances give plants their characteristic flavor, color, aroma, and resistance to disease.

Finally, supplement your diet with chlorella and spirulina, superfoods, sea vegetables, whole food powders, or other whole food supplements. This will provide your body with healing phytochemicals that are almost always lacking in the diets of most people. If you put all of this together - the ingredients in foods to avoid, the foods to add to your diet, and the new behaviors to pursue - you realize that this isn't really a diet at all. It's a lifestyle, something that you follow for the rest of your life.
My recommendations: chlorella, spirulina, Jenny Lee Supergreens, Berry Green, The Ultimate Meal, whole food complexes (green foods mixes) and sea vegetables. • Add unrefined coconut oil (or macadamia nut oil) to your diet. Coconut oil is an extremely healthy, plant derived source of healthy saturated fats that's made up of medium chain triglycerides. Coconut oil provides slowly digested, stable calories that won't spike your blood sugar and will help satiate your hunger for hours. It also tastes absolutely wonderful.

Again, this is a recipe for health, so we list all the foods -- raw fruits, vegetables, berries, healthy oils, nuts and seeds, fish, certain sea vegetables and molasses, for example -- and we even mention things that aren't food, like sunlight and water, because they are essential nutrition. Basically, this is a recipe. We even show pictures here of an unhealthy person on the left eating all the disease foods, versus the healthy food on the right.

In this section, I discuss my most highly recommend superfoods: Jenny Lee Supergreens, The Ultimate Meal, chlorella, spirulina, whole food complexes, and sea vegetables. Chlorella and spirulina I take both chlorella and spirulina (which are called "micro-algae") with nearly every meal. These are simply the top two superfood supplements that every person needs to add to their diet. Their nutritional makeup is downright astounding: • Ounce per ounce, spirulina offers twelve times more digestible protein than beef.

Many of us have felt that spirulina, aphazonimom-flo-aque (AFA), and all the sea vegetables had enough active B12 to avoid a B12 deficiency. Although the research is not fully in, we do know that, as pointed out in Conscious Eating, these substances do have human active B12. The problem is they also have a significant amount of analogue B12 that competes with the human active Bu. This analogue amount was not measured in the author's studies that were presented in Conscious Eating.
A study done in 1991 by Miller found that serum Bn appeared to be unrelated to consumption of wakame, kombu, and other sea vegetables or tempeh in macrobiotic children. Other researchers feel that it is possible that raw nori, not dry-roasted nori, is a source of active B[2. Other studies have shown that dulse did have a certain amount of Bn analogue per serving. Until research is done to see if these actually lower the MMA levels, we can't assume that because a food has human active Bi2 it will help avoid B!
Sweet and watery vegetables include: asparagus, cucumbers, dulse, ginger, hijiki, kelp, kombu, all the sea vegetables, okra, sweet potatoes, and sprouts (a certain amount really work well for balancing vata). Finally, certain grains, particularly barley and wild rice, can be included. If one is not on a 100-percent live-food diet, wheat is considered a sweet grain, which can also be balancing, but with wheat there are increased risks of allergy and Candida.

Green foods and sea vegetables are two such foods. They can be included in your meals and also taken as whole food supplements. As far as what to put on your cereal in the morning, one of the best alternatives is oat milk. Among the dairy alternatives, to many people it has a taste and texture that is most like cow's milk. Some people can't even tell the difference. Almond or rice are two other recommended choices. I do not recommend soy milk, however, for reasons we will discuss shortly.
Even more important to note, the traditional Asian diet primarily consists of whole, fresh, natural foods, including sea vegetables, which are packed with vital nutrients and one of the richest sources of absorbable calcium. They also eat a lot of fish, small amounts of meat, and little to no dairy products or processed foods.
This diet is in stark contrast to the Standard American Diet, which primarily consists of processed foods high in sugar, fat, sodium, and exorbitant amounts of meat and dairy products frequently produced with synthetic hormones and antibiotics and, of course, zero sea vegetables. Unfortunately, the media and advertising blitz that has taken place touting the health benefits of soy has been so pervasive that the other side of the debate, including research linking soy to a host of adverse health conditions such as breast cancer and memory loss, is rarely heard or considered.

Wolfe: Our niche is raw foods, superfoods and sea vegetables. Rawfoods.com isn't just me. It's a conglomerate of about 25 people who are working in this movement, to get people organic, healthy, pesticide-free food that is extremely nourishing. Goji berries are a good example of that. These berries are a complete protein and taste better than a raisin, so you have every excuse to want to eat it, plus you're getting all that nutrition on the back end.
