Water: For Health, for Healing, for Life: You're Not Sick, You're Thirsty!

The vitamins contained in fresh fruit juices are essential for the body. Still, too much of any juice—particularly orange and grapefruit juice—can be harmful. Juices can increase the acidity of the intestine and then the body. Their high potassium content can drastically increase the activation and presence of histamine. This will signal undue stress to the body, and a crisis water-rationing state will develop. The physical growth of the body of a child is an adaptive response to the stresses and demands placed on it.

However, this natural affinity for sweet flavors is more of an obstacle to continued good health in the face of today's unlimited quantities of concentrated sugars in packaged and processed foods, and widespread overconsumption of sweet beverages, such as sodas and fruit juices. It is estimated that the average North American family of four consumes 123 two to five pounds of sugar weekly. Concern about the dangers of excess refined sugars in the diet has paved the way for a lucrative market for alternative sweeteners.

Again, fruit juices are a big source of trouble, in part because we've come to associate them with healthy habits. They do carry nutrients, especially freshly made juices. But they also bring with them high levels of fructose, which can be the undoing of any effort to lose weight. Because I live in Florida, the best fruit example I can think of is the orange. A patient of mine began experiencing symptoms of diabetes. His blood sugar was suddenly up over 400, not a good sign.

Drink fruit juices 20 to 30 minutes apart from vegetable juices. Never mix fruit and vegetable juices except for apple or pineapple in the green drink. You will find many kinds of juice fasts. This Variety Juice Fast is our favorite. Drink as often as desired from the following choices. Variety Juice Fast 1. raw apple juice 6. vegetable broths 2. green drink (see recipe) 7. chlorophyll drink (see 3. other fresh or frozen juices recipe) 4. carrot juice 8. distilled or pure water 5. herb teas No citrus, except lemon. Fresh fruits are a better option than fruit juices, as they provide greater satiety and more fiber and protective phytochemicals. They make great snacks and wonderful desserts. Use frozen fruits blended with a little soymilk or yogurt to make a delicious, low-fat, nutrition-packed "ice cream.

Dilute fruit juices. Drink plenty of water. • Minimize your intake of dairy foods, refined wheat, and grains. • Take frequent exercise and keep active. 4 You Are Unique There is nobody quite like you. There are many principles that apply to us all as members of the human race—for example, we all need vitamins; but the actual amount we need for peak performance varies from individual to individual.
Dilute fruit juices and eat dried fruit only infrequently and in small quantities, preferably soaked. Stimulants—Are You Addicted? Sugar is only one side of the coin, as far as blood sugar problems are concerned. Stimulants and stress are the other. As you can see from the figure on the next page, if your blood sugar level dips there are two ways to raise it. One is to eat more glucose, and the other is to increase your level of the stress hormones adrenaline and Cortisol.
Dilute fruit juices by half with water. Avoid foods with added sugar. Limit your intake of dried fruit. Eat fruits that contain fast-releasing sugars, like bananas, with slow-releasing carbohydrates, such as oats. Natural stimulants If you still need a boost, especially during the first week off caffeine, you can do it the natural way. The body makes adrenaline, and its cousins the "feelgood" neurotransmitters dopamine and noradrenaline, directly from an amino acid called tyrosine.
You should also avoid refined foods, fruit juices, and other sugary, sweet foods. The best single measure of a food's effect on your blood sugar and hence weight is the GL of a food (see the chart, in part 9). My book The Holjord Diet limits your carbohydrate intake to no more than 40 GL points. 2. Eat only low-GL carbohydrates and eat them only with protein-rich foods. This reduces hunger as well as your tendency to store fat. This means eating fish with rice, tofu with vegetables, or beans with pasta. 3. Increase the amount of essential fats you eat, but keep down your saturated-fat intake.
Among the fruit juices, apple contains the slowest-releasing sugars, while grape juice contains the fastest-releasing ones. So apple juice is preferable. Few children drink enough water. You can encourage your child to drink water by putting it on the table at mealtimes, and when she is thirsty give her water for the first glass and diluted juice for the second. Do not give sweets, sweetened foods, cola, and other sweetened drinks as treats. If you do, these drinks become associated with something good, and later in life your offspring may choose to treat themselves all the time.

This is probably because they are using fluoridated water where their factories are located. How do fruits and fruit juices compare? The Boston scientists looked at the antioxidant power of a dozen commonly eaten fruits and five commercial fruit juices. In this test, from which blueberries were excluded, strawberries had the highest score, followed in order by plums, oranges, red grapes, kiwi fruit, pink grapefruits, white grapes, bananas, apples, tomatoes, pears, and honeydew melon. Most of the antioxidant power of these fruits was located in the juice portion, while the pulp contributed few antioxidants (although it contains fiber and other useful things).

This holds for nearly all fruit juices. Pineapple juice? Just loaded with sugar. Grape? The same. All of a sudden, it seems, America's parents fell in love with apple juice and began giving it to their kids with every meal. From a sugar consumption point of view, this was a bad idea. The skin of an apple is actually quite healthy—the pectin is a good fiber that accompanies the fructose into your system. So eating an apple a day is still a prescription for well-being. But drinking its juice is not.

General Dietary Rules Rely on cancer-deterring fruit juices, fruit juice mixed with club soda, or club soda with lime or lemon juice. Fresh fruit juices have more anticancer clout and are typical breakfast drinks. You can further boost their cancer-zapping power and make a meal out of drinks by blending soy products or low-fat yogurt together with your favorite fruits. Real brewed ginger ales are a great beverage. Avoid cancer-inciting fried foods of any kind, such as sausage and bacon (you can sample but don't feast on them).

Selling water, nonfat milk, and 100 percent fruit juices would help preserve income for the schools, let industry take part in education in a healthy way, and offer children a choice among healthy options. Snack food opportunities should be altered in similar ways to include healthy items such as fresh fruit. Urge Schools and Companies to Stop Marketing to Children There are signs of public pressure leading schools to forsake contracts with soft drink and food companies, so pressure from parents, the general public, and the press can be powerful.

I drink no soft drinks whatsoever, no milk and no fruit juices. The only things I drink are water, soy milk and unsweetened tea. In addition to avoiding certain foods, I also supplement my diet with a wide array of superfoods, medicinal herbs, vitamins, minerals and nutritional supplements. My favorites are chlorella, spirulina, broccoli sprouts, quinoa, sea vegetables, soy products, and any of the green food powders or fresh vegetables. This is where I get my outstanding nutrition that I firmly believe plays a huge role in my ability to produce outstanding cholesterol numbers.

In addition, increase intake of fruit juices such as apple, pear, cherry, grape, and prune. For older children, try these suggestions: Increase intake of water. Increase consumption of fruits and vegetables, particularly raw foods with peels, such as figs, pears, apricots, legumes, celery, cucumber, lettuce, and apples. Raisins may also be beneficial. Increase fiber intake with whole-grain cereals or bran muffins. Reduce intake of constipating foods, such as dairy products, white rice, bananas, cooked carrots, and white flour.

The basic disadvantage of drinking fruit juices is the rapid assimilation of sugars, which stresses the blood snrar regulation However snmp fruit juice can be used to flavor drinking water, if so desired. I do not recommend drinking milk, except possibly fresh raw goat's milk or cow's milk when it is still warm after milking. Use coffee and tea in moderation. While they have some benefits, they can cause problems if one becomes addicted to them. Alcohol too is best used only occasionally in small amounts. Beer drinking encourages the formation of mucus.
Again, it takes hours for the glucose from raw vegetables to enter the bloodstream, while with that from honey or fruit juices, it can take less than 30 minutes. However, when sweet food is eaten during or after a protein meal, the sugar is absorbed considerably more slowly. The same applies when sweet food is combined with fat. On the other hand, sweetened starches, such as sweet porridge, cookies, or cakes, cause digestive and metabolic problems and are not recommended for habitual use.
Problems with Natural Sweet Foods: Unfortunately, natural sweet foods such as honey, dried fruits, or fruit juices are no better for diabetics or hypoglycemics than food sweetened with white sugar. What seems to matter is how much sweet food is used and how quickly it enters the bloodstream. Fruits that are acidic as well as sweet may be even worse, especially for hypoglycemics, than plain sugar because the fruit acids reinforce the existing overacidity. However, by neutralizing fruit acids they can become beneficial, and eating the whole fruit is better than drinking the fruit juice only.

Problems may also arise from commercial liquids, such as soft dtinks, soymilk, or reconstituted 100% fruit juices, in countries where water fluoridation is practiced. Stress'Protective Nutrients A wide variety of vitamins and minetals are involved in muscle activity, partly in energy production and partly in the synthesis of proteins and neurotransmitters. The main B vitamins are essential for energy production in the muscles, and some improvement in MG can be expected with B-complex supplementation so that, for instance, less of the enzyme-blocking dmg may be required.
