I started with five glasses of cabbage juice the first day and almost at once, there was no pain. I continued this for another week, and then reduced it to three glasses per day. Both ulcers were healed when I had my check-up x-rays two months later. I am sure they were healed several weeks before the check-up because I had no pain or discomfort. I thought you might like to know it really works." If I may interject a personal opinion here, I do not believe the healing occurred on account of so-called "vitamin U," a hypothetical substance about which very little is known.
For the atrophy, he used field horsetail in a poultice of cabbage and watercress—which has worked miraculously on animals who could barely stand on their feet. These she was to use in poultices and foot and hand baths. Three months later, she returned miraculously cured! She held out her hand. "Look!" she said, and she picked a sheet of paper off the table with it. "I am so happy!" she cried. "It's so marvellous, I can hardly believe it.... I didn't feel anything the first month.... The second month, I began to feel a tickling sensation ... then little by little ...
Spring heath (flowers—one handful) Roman camomile (one dozen crushed heads) Greater celandine (leaves and stems, semi-fresh if possible—one handful) Couch-grass (grated roots—one handful) Common broom (flowers—one handful) Lavender (flowers—one handful) Use as follows: make a poultice of cabbage, watercress or kale (see instructions, page 59), coated with a liqueur glass of the preceding preparation. This is to be applied only in the event of an acute attack, to the affected areas, directly to the skin, says Messegue.
Or make a poultice, following instructions on page 59, Chapter 4, using cabbage and fresh nettle leaves, to be coated with a liqueur glass of the basic preparation and applied to the stomach. Use this mixture for foot- and hand-baths, he says, or by pouring it over a poultice made from cabbage and watercress, as described in Chapter 4, page 59—and applying to the stomach. It is not to be eaten or taken internally.

Soybean fields so treated, for example, were shown to harbor greater numbers of both cabbage loopers and velvet bean caterpillars, both serious pests that can significandy reduce yields. In this way, the use of one poison (fungicides) can create the need for another (insecticides). The disturbance of ecological interactions by chemical poisons has created secondary pests out of weed species as well. Since herbicides have been in widespread use, a number of shade-intolerant grasses, formerly weeds of minor status, have emerged as major problems.

The best results, however, were obtained when cabbage was given both before and after irradiation. Only now are we beginning to identify some of the substances in cruciferous vegetables that contribute to these protective effects. They include such chemicals as aromatic isothiocyanates and indoles, both of which have now been shown to have anti-cancer effects. In addition, many vegetables and some fruits contain such other known anti-cancer substances as coumarins, flavonoids and beta-carotene, among others. Studies are again being conducted with the cruciferous vegetables.

Immune-Strengthening Soup Saute: 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil 1 chopped onion 3 to 5 sticks astragalus 3 to 5 cloves garlic 2 to 3 pieces burdock 1 piece ginger 1 to 2 reishi mushrooms, crumbled Add: lA to 1 cup cubed tofu 2 cups chopped vegetables of choice (carrots, celery, beet greens, cabbage, kale, daikon, lotus root, turnips, etc.) 1 cup chopped mushrooms of choice (shiitake, cordyceps, etc.) V2 cup wakame or kombu (seaweed) 8 cups spring or purified water Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes.
Yogurt Lactic acid-rich foods, such as yogurt and fermented cabbage juice, can greatly enhance immune function and strengthen the intestines. Healthy bacteria in the intestines can resist many dangerous pathogens. Both the acidophilus and bulgaricus bacteria present in yogurt possess potent antitumor activity. Researchers have found that the dialyzate fraction of yogurt possesses the antitumor principals.

If using cabbage, it should be raw and macerated to a pulp and then applied, covered, and left on for a few hours or overnight. Yellow Healing Salve This is one of Eli Jones's cancer-healing salves that will heal all tissue in the area from which a cancerous growth has been removed while allowing any pus to be drawn out. It can be used following a poultice. Ingredients: • Burgundy pitch • White pine turpentine • Beeswax • Mutton tallow • Olive oil Melt, stir, and cool ingredients. Store in glass jars.
Cruciferous Vegetables Eat cruciferous vegetables daily, or eat at least five servings per week. cabbage, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale, collards, turnips, and radishes are among the most common. It is best not to eat them raw, because in their raw form they contain high amounts of goitrogens, thyroid suppressing agents that are removed during the cooking process. Since many people with cancer have slightly underactive thyroids, it's a good idea to avoid goitrogens when possible.

This root-vegetable extravaganza is a detox borscht with beets and carrots in a tomato base, along with lots of onions, garlic, red cabbage, and celery. This violently pink, red, and purple soup was absolutely delicious and we ate it for four nights with fresh whole-grain bread. By the fourth night, all symptoms were gone (i.e., my skin was totally clear, the headache was gone, etc.) and have never come back. (This soup is a great food-as-medicine way to get your beets, especially if you don't like beets that well, as I don't. It's better for you than Clear-asil, Preparation H, and Advil.
Other foods that are generally supportive for diabetics include cinnamon, nutmeg, turmeric, bay leaf, cashew, celery, cayenne, ginger, coriander seed, lettuce, cabbage, turnip, papaya fruit, cranberry, Jerusalem artichoke, millet, oats, barley, and buckwheat. Certainly, with this many foods to choose from, one could manage to include a few each day, and still have a tasty and varied diet. EXERCISE Every authority on diabetes emphasizes the role of exercise in effective treatment. Exercise has a preventive effect on every symptom and complication of diabetes.
For example, I might include broccoli, carrots, cabbage, beets, and shiitake mushrooms. I generally try to include vegetables with carotenoids, root vegetables, and some from the cruciferous group. This soup then becomes my food for the day. 3. Herbal immune-boosters and blood cleansers. My favorites are echinacea, astragalus, and isatidis (the latter two are synergistic). Licorice root, ginger root, and boldo leaf would round out my routine in this case. 4. Grapefruit seed extract. This is a powerful, unique antimicrobial.
Cruciferous veggies are a huge family that includes cabbage, broccoli, kale, and Brussels sprouts. They are currently being regaled by much of the scientific community for their antioxidant sulfur-containing compounds— sulforaphanes—which appear to boost production of anticancer enzymes and detoxify foreign substances, including carcinogens. Sulfur has been prized since antiquity as preventive medicine—something that mainstream cancer organizations and antioxidant research now support.

Then I began a diet of raw vegetables sweetened with honey and lime: spinach, lettuce, cabbage, carrots, fresh tomatoes and whole wheat bread. I began this diet around 1920, and a year later the doctors could not find a trace of sugar. Now, at 70,1 can eat anything on the table, and do more work than any man my age!" * Another man writes that he cured many cases of rheumatism and people who were diabetics with honey. He cites the case of a man and his wife who both suffered from diabetes, doctoring with various physicians for a long time without improving.

You can cut away small moldy spots on hard cheese, salami, and firm fruits and vegetables (such as cabbage, bell peppers, and carrots). Keep your knife out of the mold and cut out about an inch-wide square around and below the mold (invisible spores spread out from the visibly moldy part). Put the food in a clean storage container, cover it with fresh wrap, or use it immediately. þ You can safely scoop out tiny spots of mold from jelly or jam. Then, with a clean spoon, scoop out a larger area around the spot. If the jam tastes fermented, throw it out.

Bioflavonoids—These plant compounds are found in lemons, grapes, plums, black currants, grapefruit, apricots, buckwheat, cherries, blackberries, in the white rind of citrus fruits, squash, broccoli, cabbage, parsley, carrots, cucumbers, and rose hips. Bioflavonoids are also available in supplement form. Vitamin E—This vitamin appears to help alleviate the pain and stiffness of arthritis. A recent study of osteoarthritis showed that vitamin E supplements helped reduce pain, improve mobility, and reduce the need for painkillers.

Lower levels ofvitamin B2 are found in cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, apples, figs, berries, grapes, and tropical fruits. Functions: Riboflavin functions as the precursor or building block for two coenzymes that are important in energy production. Flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) are the two coenzymes that act as hydrogen carriers to help make energy as adenosine triphosphate (ATP) through the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats.
Include the cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and cauliflower, in the diet. Their actions are not known exactly, but these foods are thought to help prevent cancer. Minimize the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Alcohol increases the risks for certain cancers, which are even more liable to occur in those who smoke. Avoid the consumption of salt-cured, smoked, and nitrate-treated foods. Nitrates and nitrites can form nitrosamine, a carcinogen, in the digestive tract.
Include cruciferous vegetables, such as cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage. 5. Include foods rich in vitamins A and C. 6. Lower alcohol consumption. 7. Lower intake of salt-cured, smoked, or nitrite-containing foods. So we begin with a high-nutrient, low-fat, high-fiber diet. More specifically, protein intake should be about 15 percent of the diet—from 12-18 percent, and not more than 20 percent, or 100 grams (400 calories) per day. Complex carbohydrates could make up about 60 percent of the diet, which would greatiy increase the fiber intake.
The cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli and cabbage, seem to have other factors such as sulfhydryl-containing molecules besides the fiber that may protect against the development of cancer. Cancer of the breast and a high-fat diet have been shown to be related for some time. It is thought that saturated fats generate more cholesterol and higher estrogen levels in women. This theory supports the dietary fat and breast cancer relationship as estrogen is particularly related to increased incidence of female breast cancer.
Good vegetable sources include red and green peppers (the best), broccoli, Brussels sprouts, tomatoes, asparagus, parsley, dark leafy greens, cabbage, and sauerkraut. There is not much available in the whole grains, seeds, and beans; however, when these are sprouted, their vitamin C content shoots up. Sprouts, then, are good foods for winter and early spring, when other fresh fruits and vegetables are not as available. Animal foods contain almost no vitamin C; though fish, if eaten raw, has enough to prevent deficiency symptoms.

A glass of room temperature water, raw cabbage or potato juice, or herbal teas such as fenugreek, slippery elm, comfrey, licorice and meadowsweet (lukewarm, no lemon) can bring quick relief. Fresh papaya or banana can help as well. If you do need to lower your stomach acidity you can use a form of organic sulfur called MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) in supplement form, 1,000 mg daily. Don't eat a lot of fat, either, as fat slows the emptying of the stomach. Use alcohol and chocolate in moderation. Eat several small meals a day so that you don't overeat at any one meal.
Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and Brussels sprouts, eaten in large amounts, increase the rate at which your body metabolizes theophylline. Foods that acidify the urine cause the drug to be emptied more quickly from the bloodstream, while foods that alkalinize the urine have the opposite effect. Meat, chicken, fish, eggs and grains tend to acidify the urine. Vitamin C and cranberries also acidify the urine. Foods that alkalinize the urine include most fruits (exceptions are cranberries, plums and orange juice), dairy products (except cheese) and vegetables.
Foods high in vitamin K include dark, leafy green vegetables, lettuces, potatoes, fish and fish oils, fruits, especially citrus fruits, egg yolks, dairy products, the cruciferous family of vegetables including broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and Brussels sprouts. Onions and soy foods may increase the action of anticoagulants. If you eat lots of vegetables, don't stop because you're taking this drug! Have your physician adjust the drug levels accordingly. Don't drink tonic water if you're taking an anticoagulant.

Red and purple vegetables and fruits - such as tomatoes, red cabbage, berries, and plums - contain a large portion of non-vitamin-A active pigments, including flavonoids. Legumes, grains, and seeds are also significant sources of carotenoids. The flavonoids are another group of plant pigments providing remarkable protection against cancer, heart disease and strokes. These compounds are largely responsible for the colors of fruits and flowers. Flavonoids act as powerful antioxidants in providing protection against oxidative and free radical damage.

Unripe banana also has anti-ulcer effects, as do the herbs slippery elm (Ulmus fulva; take 200 mg four to six times a day), marshmallow root (Althaea officinalis; take 200 mg four to six times a day) and the juice of raw cabbage. You can buy extract of unripe plantain banana (Musa paradis-iaca); take 150 mg four to six times a day. If you have any type of ulcer, be sure to eliminate gastrointestinal irritants such as tobacco, NSAIDs, coffee and alcohol. Once your ulcer has healed, try taking steps to enhance your body's secretion of digestive acids and enzymes to prevent a recurrence.
